It all started when pals Varunya and Rawiwan felt that they were no longer passionate about their jobs, and craved a new challenge to take on in their lives. After endless conversations on what they wished they could be doing, they finally sat down together one day and brainstormed on a whole list of possible business ideas. Eventually, they decided on something leather-related on the basis that they both love the material and that their favourite bags are always made from it. It also helped that one of them was the third generation of an established leather goods manufacturer, and thus had the right "know-how".
The name Vara actually comes from the first two letters of both the Thai founders’, Varunya and Rawiwan's, names. Incidentally, in Thai, Vara also means "agenda", which is perfectly fitting for their vision of creating a unique line of leather bags and accessories to fit any agenda.
Fun fact: All Vara products started out being named after edibles which their colours corresponded to. (Think Chili for red, Wild Blueberry for blue). However, as time went by and their product line increased, they started running out of food names. Besides, they always had problems naming a grey items, seeing as grey food is pretty rare!
