As a child, Monica Handradjid always had a talent for drawing and colouring, winning first prize in art contests. But believe it or not, before she started ARM Leather, Monica’s design sketch for a bag was once described by a craftsmen as ugly. Negative feedback obviously did not dampen her ambition or affect her confidence. “In my opinion, my sketch is good and very artistic,” she thought to herself.
The idea behind ARM Leather was conceived when an university assignment required Monica to think of a business idea involving the use of raw materials originating in Indonesia. And, as they would say, the rest is history. Now Monica has her sights set on running her own concept store, expanding to Europe and continuing to support Indonesian craftsmen.
Currently she is actively searching for a suitable craftsman who can be her partner-in-crime. “Looking for a craftsman is like looking for a girlfriend/ boyfriend … When I and the craftsman are suitable, we are as family” says Monica.
